Serge Fattal

Serge Fatal is a composer and pianist whose works have gained international recognition, including a nomination at the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards in the Classical Composition category for his work Piano Cello N2. He was also shortlisted in Creative Armenia’s Self-Quarantine Art Challenge for his piano piece Humdrum. Composed during the COVID-19 quarantine.

As a pianist, Serge performs with the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at the University of Toronto, presenting works by a wide range of contemporary composers. His performances reflect a deep engagement with both classical and modern repertoire, shaped by his parallel journey as a composer. He has appeared at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts in Yerevan, showcasing his own music alongside works by other composers. In addition, he has served as a piano accompanist for voice students at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan and for a choir at the Naregatsi Art Institute.

Teaching is an essential part of his identity as a pianist and composer, as it allows him to share the unique perspective composers bring to understanding and analyzing music. He views teaching not only to guide students in developing technical and creative skills, but also as a means of deepening his own artistry by articulating and reflecting on musical ideas.
